News at Last (submitted by Shorril at 01:40pm PDT) In an effort to streamline things a bit, and hopefully reduce the number of questions I get during raids, I've finally ended my neglect of the database frontpage. Please continue reading below for the FAQs regarding the opperations of the DAOS DKP/RAP system. If there are any questions you would like to see added to this list, please contact me via the guild boards on in game and I'll respond in kind. |

FAQs (submitted by Shorril at 01:35pm PDT) What is DKP/RAP? DKP originally stands for Dragon Kill Points, from back in the days when the best loot in most MMORPGs actually came from dragons. These points were used for the purposes of determining ownership of choice loot based on how much a person participated in such raids. Dragons have fallen by the wayside, but the point system remains the same. Systems vary – some allocate points based on merit, some based on time, some based on the target. The system used by DAOS simply requires you to be present during the critical fights and to participate in some form. How many points you earn on the DAOS system is determined by the nature of the target – the harder it is, or the longer it takes, the more points it is worth. What do you do with points? Again, how points are used depends on the system. DAOS uses a closed bid system – meaning that when a person wishes to bid on an item, the privately send a bid to the designated bid collector. In this situation, the bid you send is final. You can withdraw your bid if you feel it is necessary, but you cannot change your bid once you have placed it. The highest bid and bidder are publicly announced, and they are permitted to loot the item the bid on. In cases where two (or more) people share the highest bid, the tied individuals use /random for a tiebreaker. What activities earn points? Official raids through DAOS on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday earn points. Weekday raids begin at 9pm EST, and Saturday raids begin at 8pm EST. As the location usually varies, it is a good idea to watch the alliance channel to find out where you are expected to meet up. What items require bids? Items that have over 200hp/mana as a base go to bids, as well as quest items that result in armor that fits these qualifications. In terms of augs, common augs – zonewide rares, and augs that always drop off a specific mob (ie: Anguish Minis), go to /random. Augs that drop as part of a large event/encounter require bids. Can points be transferred? Yes, but only between characters you own. Transferring points from one alt to another are permissible, but not between characters owned by different people. Transfer requests cannot be made during a raid. You cannot ask to use the points from an alt to cover a bid in the middle of a raid. Why should I register on this site? Registration is not required - if you only want to see your points, all you need to do is select the "standings" link at the top of your screen. However, for people who want to put a bit of research behind their bids, registering gives you access to item history and bid reports. This tool is very useful for helping to figure out how often a item drops, what the average bid on it has been, and who has already won this item. Knowing this can help you to (1) avoid overbidding, (2) figure out who you are(n't) bidding against, and (3) estimate what items you are most likely to see during a raid. |
